This is arguably my favourite piece of artwork that I’ve ever made. I have finally begun to feel confident enough in my abilities as an artist to be able to move away from more standard realism and be more creative with how I use my realism skillset to capture my experiences as a disabled person.

This piece is named after the symptom it represents, “Brain Fog”, which is a very appropriate name for the feeling. When I’m flaring up, it’s very common for me to feel like the information is there and it should be obvious, but I just can’t find it. That’s why I chose a huge signpost to represent organised thoughts, obscured by the fog which means the silhouetted figure is far less likely to be able to find what she needs. I rely so heavily on post-its and phone reminders during those times to keep me on track.

My favourite little detail is the “would’ve been handy 2 hours ago” on the signpost. I chuckled to myself when I was writing that. It’s so frustrating when you finally remember something, but it’s already long past the point of being useful.
